RE: State CAASPP Testing for grades 3-8, 10, 11 & 12 (April 23-May 10)
The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP is the state academic testing program. CAASPP is a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career. The CAASPP includes computer adaptive tests for all grades 3-8 and 11 in English–language arts and mathematics as well as new online CAST Science (grades 5th, 8th, 10th &12th ).
Students will take the CAASPP tests from April 23-May 10, 2019. Testing will be held most days except for Late-Start Thursdays. To learn about the types of questions on the computer-based test, you and your child can view the practice test online at the California Department of Education (CDE) Smarter Balanced Practice Test Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sa/practicetest.asp. Parents have the legal right to opt out of state testing. Parents choosing this option must submit a written letter stating their desire to have student(s) not tested during the 2019 testing cycle. This letter must be received at the District Office by 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2019.
Following the spring 2019 testing (summer), students will receive individual score reports. Student score reports will be mailed home to parents and will include an overall score, a comparison of last year’s scores, a description of the student’s achievement level for English–language arts and mathematics, and other information.
Parents can help their child score well on the test in multiple ways; communicating with them about the test, taking interest in how your child is feeling about the testing each day, and making sure your child gets a good rest and breakfast before testing takes place.
