I Can Learn Common Core-Kindergarten
In the Maricopa Unified School District, kindergarten is an all day program from 8:05-2:45. There are no waiting lists for kindergarten, all students eligible for kindergarten will be admitted, however we recommend that you register as soon as possible in order for the District to plan enough classes and teachers for the coming year. Students must turn five on or before September 1-December 2 in order to eligible to attend kindergarten.
In 2012-2013, The Maricopa Unified School District established a Transitional Kindergarten program in line with the requirements of the California Senate Bill (SB) 181. The “Kindergarten Readiness Act” moved the school start date to September through a multi-year, phase-in requirement, beginning with the 2012-2013 school year. The Transitional Kindergarten uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. This program will be a bridge between preschool and kindergarten that will give children whose birthdays fall late in the year an opportunity to learn important academic and social skills in a hands-on way that supports their development.
Those students eligible by law for Transitional Kindergarten must turn five between September 2 and December 2..
